   "question": "Where are the best photo spots in the Ourika Valley?",
   "answer": "The viewpoints over the valley on the road above Tnine Ourika, the hilltop and terraced earth villages, the river restaurants and footbridges of Setti Fatma, the waterfalls above the village, the potters' yards and argan cooperatives on the road, the Anima garden and, in winter, the snow of Oukaïmeden."
  },
  {
   "question": "What time of day is best for photos in the valley?",
   "answer": "The morning. The light is softer, the air is clearer, the snow line on the Atlas is sharp, and Setti Fatma is still quiet. In summer, afternoon storm clouds often build over the peaks and the light goes flat."
  },
  {
   "question": "Can I photograph people in the Ourika Valley?",
   "answer": "Ask first, with a gesture towards the camera. Many people, especially older women, do not want to be photographed, and a no is final. A photo you ask for may come with a request for a few dirhams or a small purchase: decide before you press the button."
  },
  {
   "question": "Can I fly a drone in the Ourika Valley?",
   "answer": "Not without an official authorisation. Drones are tightly regulated in Morocco and are usually held at customs when you arrive without one. Leave yours at home."
  },
  {
   "question": "Which season is best for photos?",
   "answer": "Spring, from March to May, for green terraces, blossom and waterfalls full of snowmelt. Autumn for clear light and yellow leaves. Winter for snow on the peaks and at Oukaïmeden. Summer is green by the river but hazy, with storm clouds in the afternoon."
  },
  {
   "question": "Will the driver stop for photos?",
   "answer": "Yes. On our private day trip you set the pace, and the driver stops where you ask when it is safe to pull over. Tell him at the start which kind of pictures you want: views, villages, people at work or the waterfalls."

 "content_markdown": "The Ourika Valley has about ten good photo stops on a single road, which makes it one of the easiest photo days from Marrakech. From the plain to the end of the road you pass viewpoints over the green valley and the High Atlas, earth villages stepping up the slopes, irrigated terraces, potters' yards and argan cooperatives, the Anima garden, and finally Setti Fatma, with its river restaurants, footbridges and waterfalls. In winter the plateau of Oukaïmeden, reached from Aghbalou, adds snow. The best light is in the morning, before the haze and the afternoon clouds. Spring gives green terraces and full waterfalls, autumn clear light, winter snow on the peaks. Two rules matter more than any lens: ask before you photograph people, and leave your drone at home.\n\nOur drivers stop at these places every day, and travellers with a camera often ask us for a \"photo version\" of the day. This guide is that version: where to stop, when, and how to behave.\n\n## Where are the best photo spots?\n\n| Spot | What you photograph | Best moment |\n|---|---|---|\n| Viewpoints above Tnine Ourika | The green valley, the river and the High Atlas | Morning |\n| Hilltop and terraced villages | Earth houses stepping up the slope, minarets, terraces | Morning or late afternoon |\n| Irrigated terraces | Fields watered by the seguias, walnut and fruit trees | Spring |\n| Potters' yards on the road | Rows of jars, glazed and terracotta pots, a potter at the wheel | Any time |\n| Women's argan cooperatives | Hands cracking nuts, the stone mill, the bottles | Any time, with permission |\n| The Anima garden | Sculptures among palms, the Atlas behind | Opening time |\n| Setti Fatma, river restaurants | Tables in the river, footbridges, the village | Morning, before the crowds |\n| The Setti Fatma waterfalls | Water falling into rock pools in the gorge | Spring for the flow |\n| Mint tea in a village house | The tray, the bread, the pouring | During a family visit |\n| Oukaïmeden | Snow, the high plateau, the ski lifts | Winter mornings |\n\n## The road and the villages\n\nThe best wide views come early, on the stretch above Tnine Ourika, when the light is low and the snow line on the Atlas is sharp. The earth villages are the subject that defines the valley: houses built of earth and stone, stacked up the slope, with terraces below. Shoot them from across the river or from the road, with the slope in the frame; inside a village, ask before you point your camera at a house, a door with people or a courtyard.\n\n## Setti Fatma and the waterfalls\n\n[Setti Fatma](https://ourika-valley.com/services/visit-the-village-of-setti-fatma-ourika-valley/), at the end of the road, is the most photographed place in the valley: tables set in the river, footbridges, the village climbing the slope. Arrive in the morning, before the day visitors, for a frame without crowds. The waterfalls above the village are a climb of about 30 minutes to the first one; the light in the gorge is best in the late morning, when the sun reaches the water, and the flow is strongest in spring. Our guide to the [Setti Fatma waterfalls](https://ourika-valley.com/services/conquer-the-cascades-of-setti-fatma/) describes the path. Keep your camera in a bag on the rocky sections: you will need your hands.\n\n## Craft and work\n\nPotters' yards along the road are a gift for photographers: rows of jars drying in the sun, stacks of glazed pots, a potter at the wheel. In a [women's argan cooperative](https://ourika-valley.com/services/womens-argan-oil-cooperative/), the hands cracking the nuts and the old stone mill tell the story of the oil better than any landscape. In both places, ask first, and buy something if you have taken many pictures: it is the fair way to say thank you. Our pages on the [potters' village](https://ourika-valley.com/services/pottery-village-ourika/) and the [Berber rugs](https://ourika-valley.com/services/berber-rugs-ourika/) say more about what you see.\n\n## When is the light best?\n\n| Season | What it gives |\n|---|---|\n| Spring (March to May) | Green terraces, blossom lower down, waterfalls full of snowmelt, snow still on the peaks |\n| Summer (June to August) | Green by the river, but haze and storm clouds in the afternoon |\n| Autumn (September to November) | Clear light, yellow leaves, quieter villages |\n| Winter (December to February) | Snow on the Atlas and at Oukaïmeden, crisp air, short days |\n\nWhatever the season, the morning is the best part of the day: clearer air, softer light, fewer people. In winter the sun rises late, at about 8:30 am in late December, so a 9 am start is enough. Our page on the [Ourika Valley weather](https://ourika-valley.com/services/weather-ourika-valley/) has a live forecast, and our guide to [the valley in winter](https://ourika-valley.com/ourika-valley-in-winter/) covers the snow.\n\n## How do you photograph people respectfully?\n\n- **Ask first.** A gesture towards the camera and a questioning look are enough. A nod is a yes; a wave of the hand is a no, and it is final.\n- **Expect refusals.** Many people, especially older women, do not wish to be photographed. That is an answer, not shyness.\n- **Decide before you shoot.** A photo you ask for may come with a request for a few dirhams or a purchase.\n- **Photograph things freely.** Spices, rugs, pots, hands at work: often the best pictures anyway.\n- **Put the camera away** in the livestock part of the Monday [souk of Tnine Ourika](https://ourika-valley.com/tnine-ourika-monday-souk/), where serious business is done, and at the shrine of Setti Fatma, which non-Muslims do not enter.\n\nOur page on the [people and culture of the valley](https://ourika-valley.com/ourika-berber-people-culture/) explains the everyday manners behind these rules.\n\n## Drones and equipment\n\nDrones are tightly regulated in Morocco. Without an official authorisation they are usually held at customs on arrival, so leave yours at home. For the rest, travel light: a wide lens for the villages and the valley, a short telephoto for the details and the snow line, and a cloth for the spray at the waterfalls. Shoes with a real grip matter more than any lens on the waterfall path.\n\n## How do you plan a photo day with us?\n\nOn our [private Ourika Valley day trip](https://ourika-valley.com/day-trip-ourika-valley/) the vehicle is yours: the driver stops where you ask when it is safe to pull over, and you set the time at each place. It costs 120 EUR per vehicle for 1 to 7 people and 200 EUR for 8 to 17. For snow, the Ourika + [Oukaïmeden](https://ourika-valley.com/oukaimeden-day-trip-from-marrakech/) day costs 180 EUR per vehicle for 1 to 7 people. Tell us at booking that it is a photo day, and the hour you want to leave.\n\nOur [photo gallery](https://ourika-valley.com/grid/) shows the valley as we see it on our trips.",
