Frequently asked questions
How do I book the Ourika Valley day trip?
Go to our booking page, choose the day trip, your date, the number of people and your pickup address, then pay online. You receive a confirmation email straight away. Private transport, the half day, the packages, the cooperatives tour, the Ourika and Agafay day, the cooking class and the pottery workshop are booked and paid the same way.
How can I pay?
Every offer is paid online at booking through PayPal, either with a PayPal account or with a bank card via PayPal. Your card details go to PayPal, never to us, and you see the total before confirming. Drinks, tips and purchases are paid on the spot, ideally in cash in dirhams, and so is lunch if you did not add the lunch option.
How much does the private day trip cost?
The price is per vehicle, not per person: 120 EUR for a minivan for 1 to 7 people, 200 EUR for a minibus for 8 to 17 people, with fuel, driver and pickup and drop-off at your hotel or riad. Lunch (20 EUR per person) and a local guide for the waterfalls (40 EUR per group for 1 to 7 people, 80 EUR for 8 to 17) are options added at booking.
What is the cancellation policy?
Cancellation is free up to 7 days before the trip, with a full refund. Later cancellations and no-shows are not refunded. If weather or river conditions make the valley unsafe on your date, we propose another date or a full refund. Full details are in our terms and conditions.
Can you pick us up in the medina?
Cars cannot enter most lanes of the Marrakech medina. If your riad is inside, we meet you at the nearest point a vehicle can reach, as close as possible to your door. Your driver confirms the exact meeting point on WhatsApp the day before, and riad staff can usually walk you there. For private transport, pickup or drop-off at Marrakech airport costs the same as from a hotel or riad.
Which languages do your drivers and guides speak?
Our drivers speak French, English and Spanish. The local guide in the valley, an option on the private day trip, works with you in a language you share, and explains the Amazigh (Berber) culture of the villages. If you need a specific language, mention it when you book and we tell you honestly what we can offer.
Is the trip suitable for children?
Yes, children enjoy the river, the cooperative and village life along the road. The waterfalls path is rocky, so small children often stop at the first falls, and that is fine. Tell us the ages of your children when you book so we can plan the day and the vehicle.
Is the Ourika Valley accessible for people with reduced mobility?
The drive, the cooperative and the riverside restaurants at Setti Fatma are manageable for most people, though some have steps and uneven ground. The waterfalls path is not: it is rocky with scrambling. Tell us about any mobility needs before booking and we adapt the programme.
What should I wear?
Closed shoes with a good grip are essential for the waterfalls. Bring a light jacket, because the valley is cooler than Marrakech, plus a hat and sun cream. Clothing that covers shoulders and knees is appreciated in the villages. In winter, add warm layers.
What about flash floods and bad weather?
In summer, thunderstorms can build over the mountains in the afternoon and the river can rise very fast. Our drivers and guides watch the sky and the water, and keep you away from the riverbed when a storm threatens. If conditions are unsafe, we move your date or refund you in full.
Is lunch included?
On the private day trip, lunch is an option you add when you book: 20 EUR per person, at a riverside restaurant in Setti Fatma, drinks not included. You can also eat on your own and pay the restaurant directly; in that case, ask for the menu and prices before ordering. On the shared excursion, lunch is included in the 25 EUR.
Do we have to buy something at the cooperatives?
Never. The visit is a chance to see how argan oil is made and to taste it. If you want to buy, the money goes to the cooperative, and our guide can explain the difference between culinary and cosmetic oil so you choose well. Our drivers do not push you to shop.
Should we tip the driver and guide?
Tips are not included in the price and are never compulsory. In Morocco it is customary to leave something for a driver or guide if you were happy with the day. Give what feels right to you, directly to the person, in dirhams or euros.
Is the Ourika Valley safe?
The valley is a quiet farming area that welcomes many visitors every year, and it is open to tourism. The main risks are natural: slippery rocks on the waterfalls path and summer storms. With good shoes, a local guide and attention to the weather, the day is safe for most people.
What is the difference between the shared and the private tour?
The private tour gives your group its own vehicle and driver, and you set the pace: 120 EUR per vehicle for 1 to 7 people, 200 EUR for 8 to 17, with lunch and a local guide as options. The shared excursion groups travellers together on a fixed schedule from a meeting point in Marrakech and costs 25 EUR per person, lunch and return transport included. Both are booked and paid online.
Do you take groups of 8 or more?
Yes. For 8 to 17 people the private day trip uses a minibus at 200 EUR for the vehicle, which is 25 EUR each for eight people and about 12 EUR each for seventeen. The waterfall guide option is 80 EUR per group and lunch 20 EUR per person. We book up to 17 people online; for a larger group, write to us before booking so we can plan vehicles and guides.
Can we combine the valley with a camel ride or quad?
Yes. A camel ride can be added to the day trip and paid on the spot, or booked as a package: the vehicle price (120 EUR for 1 to 7 people) plus 15 EUR per person. The quad package adds 30 EUR per person. The trek with lunch in a Berber home costs 60 EUR per person (transport from Marrakech optional) and the Oukaïmeden day 180 EUR per vehicle for 1 to 7 people, 260 EUR for 8 to 17.
How much do the half day, the Agafay day, the cooking class and the pottery workshop cost?
Half day: 120 EUR per vehicle for 1 to 7 people, 200 EUR for 8 to 17, with breakfast by the river (20 EUR per person) and a waterfalls guide (40 or 80 EUR per group) as options. Ourika and Agafay: 180 EUR per vehicle for 1 to 7 people, 260 EUR for 8 to 17. Cooking class: 60 EUR per person. Pottery workshop: 30 EUR per person. For both, transport from Marrakech is optional. All are paid online.
